Just as we were settling into the long weekend, Sabyasachi Mukherjee dropped his entire spring couture 2017 collection through an Instagram show. ‘The Udaipur Collection’ is, as the name suggests, inspired by Rajasthani royalty. There are references to Maharanis, palaces, stately luncheons, rose gardens, gulaal, The Sheesh Mahal and more. But what moves an ingenious designer like Mukherjee look at such a derivative inspiration?
Sabyasachi Bridal Collection
Sabyasachi has become such a popular choice for brides that the brand has dedicated an Instagram handle just to share images of real brides on their big day. Having opted out of the couture week schedule, Sabyasachi Mukherjee now chooses to share his new collections through Instagram for a democratic, all-access unveiling of the new line. All of the last week, the designer shared teasers for his upcoming autumn/winter 2017 couture collection and jewelry line, that was finally revealed last evening.
Sabyasachi Heritage Jewelry
The beautiful ‘Sabyasachi Fine and Heritage Jewelry’ is an ode to an erstwhile era, as the designer reminisces the beauties of the ’20s and the exquisite collection of his grandmother’s jewelry. The twenties have been my biggest inspiration. What a period, what women! Frida Kahlo, Amrita Sher-Gil, Édith Piaf, Devika Rani. I cannot stray too far away from what they represented aesthetically,
Sabyasachi Zardari Collection
This collection borrows heavily from hedonism and decadence. Drying rose petals, gulkand, kish mish, cardamom, Zarda, and pomegranate set the mood and the color palette. Deep brooding burgundy and russet over layered with antiquated zardozi, semi-precious stones, and Pearls form the basis of these baroque bridal wear lehengas.
Sabyasachi ‘Devi’ Bridal Couture
This season, the bridal couture follows broad themes titled ‘Devi’, ‘Gulkand’ and ‘Minimalist-Maximalist’. Aside from the show-stopping ornate trademark Sabyasachi lehengas, the collection offers Kanjeevaram tissue saris reminiscent of Raja Ravi Verma paintings. It’s clear that the collection addresses the needs of both the bride and the bridal party, including menswear.
Sabyasachi amalgamation of Victorian and Indian
I like the juxtaposition of two opposites. Rustic organic India converging with classic Victorian. The long silk matka sari worn with a heritage Borla and a stack of Victorian diamond bracelets. Ethnic wear for the global nomad. Shot at the Rambagh Palace in Jaipur, the elegant home of Maharani Gayatri Devi, again one of his inspiration, the collection is handcrafted with uncut diamonds, rubies, emeralds and pearls — it is classy and sophisticated. It also brings back the lost artworks and designing brilliance.
Sabyasachi French Chiffon Collection
Whether the maharanis in their French chiffon with European flora and fauna print, the maharajas in their quiet arrogance, the exuberant interiors of their majestic palaces, their culture, traditions of clothing, their often eclectic tastes in luxury, all of those notions and insinuations come to life with my creative liberty in the Udaipur collection. While there is global exposure to these iconic people, they are also extremely insular and proud of who they are and where they come from. And the existence of that feral dichotomy to me is the essence of empowered luxury.
Sabyasachi Polka Jewelry
From the traditional temple jewelry to intricate Polki jewelry and statement Victorian diamonds, take your pick. And it’s not just for women. Of course, like his sherwanis and bandh gala suits, he’s got a plethora of options for the men too. While this has opened up the once rather guarded couture and fashion community, there’s likely a price for brands to pay as well. Since luxury and couture primarily rests on selling the alluring idea of exclusivity or unattainability, sharing the collection in such a visible manner may impact existing customer bases. If you are looking to but Polki Jewelry online then Limeroad is good option, you will get good collection of polka jewelry at Limeroad Offers.
Facts about the Sabyasachi 2017 collection:-
- The collection opens with soft pastels hues in vintage prints and delicate embroidery.
- Moving on to beige base with gold and pastel applique work (the stuff dreams are made of).
- We couldn’t stop staring at the sari having triple powers: print, brocade & sheer.
- The collection also showed some unmissable flower power.
- Velvet blouse with floral printed sari is the (new) classic combination.
- Embroidered tulle sari and hand printed sherwani
- Plunge brocade blouse with lehenga skirt featuring antique zardozi embroidery.
